The summer university of Central Ostrobothnia is an adult education organization. It promotes the area of Central Ostrobothnia and services its population, by organizing diversified education.

The summer university of Central Ostrobothnia is maintained by the university association of Central Ostrobothnia, its members consisting of 15 municipalities. The summer university is functionally linked to the Institute, but is administratively and economically independent. It also has a branch in Pietarsaari.

The summer university organizes vocational continuing education, courses within the cultural field, seminars, language teaching and university studies for elderly persons.

The summer university complements the range of subjects at the open university of the Chydenius Institute, by organizing education in subjects that are not represented at the University of Jyväskylä. The university activity takes place all year round.
